Dakwäkãda Warriors Book Signing: On Saturday (1-2pm) and Sunday (2-3pm) artist, Cole Pauls will be making an appearance at the Moniker Press table (1st Floor) to answer questions and sign copies of both Dakwäkãda Warriors I: Sha Catcher and Dakwäkãda Warriors II. Both copies can also be purchased at the fair for $30.
On another note, if you are interested in learning more about international Risograph print practices I would recommend attending a few of the presentations taking place at the VAG Annex, 2nd Floor, Library.

Our Missing Body: Newspapers I, II, III is a collection of three small newspapers by artist, Zoe Kreye. Published collaboratively with Moniker Press, a limited edition of Our Missing Body was risograph printed in Vancouver, BC, 2017. In addition, the envelope features a letter introducing the project by Tracy Stefanucci.
Copies of Our Missing Body will be available for purchase. Also What is Pressure? What is Temperature? exhibition will also be on view.
These are newspapers written by the body. A quiet voice not often heard or listened to. The words have been collected, compiled, written and rewritten with large physical strokes over three years, maybe three lifetimes. They are the daily news that comes from a place where the body leads. On certain days the mind has no directive, no mentorship, and it is the body that we must read. The body knows which arm to lift, which joint to bend and how to fill a belly in order to find some stability, some transformation. In this circumstance, the body writes through a very specific process. Clay forms have been moulded from the body, in movement, and were later used by many to focus on sensation, conjure visions, listen to stories and create movement rituals. The newspapers of Our Missing Body Dream diaries, turned grief manual, turned somatic pamphlet, turned ritual instructional guide, turned speculative fiction. —dream diaries turned grief manuals, turned somatic pamphlets, turned ritual instructional guides, turned speculative fictions— are written from the many hands and voices of these encounters.

Beyond excited to announce that our latest collaborative print will be the first available online at People of Print’s Department Store.
i, ii, iii: trio is a large scale interactive risograph poster that invites the viewer to participate as the third collaborator. The viewer can mold the poster into a 3D object by cutting out and folding shapes, thus create a play of light, space, room, shadow.

i. Using graphite and ink, artist, Sylvie Ringer created a personal “setzkästchen“ (archive, collection) of reinterpreted objects and plants on paper.
ii. Erica Wilk (of Moniker Press) then worked with the raw drawings. They were rearranged, defragmented and composed into a different system of objects. Designed to be printed as a two colour large scale risograph experiment.
iii. Lastly, we invite the viewer, to complete the triptych by interacting with the poster as they desire.

Preservation is a word oft associated with environmental activism. However, its implementation is a distinctly “cultural” phenomenon, not a natural one. Namely, it is one of human beings, and their technologies. Preservation brings along with it a whole host of other activities. The verb implies an external process to occur in order to accomplish its goal. You have pickling, salting, fermenting, cataloguing, copying, categorizing, languaging, embalming. In reality, ruin itself is a much needed process in the activity of sustainment of diverse life. The transfer of heat from one system (biological, ecological, and, I would argue, visual, and ontological) is integral and the multiplicities of systems allows for a birth of organization in the transfer of this heat. Origin of Species by Darwin, and Kelvin’s laws of thermodynamics were published in the same decade. They both came on the tail end of the industrial revolution. Both theories were argued as paradoxical, and heretical, by the church. Both conceptually resist the possibility of a creative or intelligent design in the world. However, once you consider the closed system of thermodynamics as being one which encompasses you, the earth, the universe, this transfer of heat and its loss in the process – the movement of such energy – can still create a beautiful and complex diversity of ruin. —Brynn McNab

First adventure of the 2017 summer, Moniker Press went east!
First stop; Montreal, where we got to meet with some cool riso printers (l’Abriocot) for Mobile Moniker and also enjoy experiencing the city.
Next stop; Toronto for the 2nd Annual Toronto Art Book Fair. Four solid days of artists books – it was a blast! Also got a chance to hang out and collaborate with local riso printers, Colour Code, Vide Press, Paper Pusher, and Perish Publishing.
